The Whispers Before the Storm: Reading Your Body's Early Warning Signals

Self Awareness Life Self Discovery 6 min read

You know that feeling when something's just... off? Maybe you've been getting a sore throat every few weeks. Or you keep stubbing your toe. Or you've got this unusual fatigue and exhaustion no matter how much sleep you get. They’re your body’s early warning signals. But we often brush these things aside as bad luck or just part of life. What if I told you these aren't random at all? What if they're actually your body's way of trying to get your attention before something bigger happens?

Before a major life event - those things I call a Life Bomb, comes crashing in, we almost always get previews. The previews are common early warning signs. They’re the subtle hints, the gentle nudges, the quiet whispers that something needs to shift. The problem is, we've been taught to dismiss ourselves and our feelings for so long that we've forgotten how to listen. We've turned off our internal compass, that beautiful intuition we were born with, and now we're navigating life without our most powerful tool.

Reading Your Body's Early Warning Signals

Your body stores everything. Every emotion you've pushed down, didn't speak your truth, when you felt dismissed or not good enough. It's all in there. And when these feelings keep happening, your body starts speaking louder. These are you body’s early warning signals. That recurring sore throat? It might be about all the things you're not saying. The constant exhaustion? Perhaps it's your soul telling you you're on the wrong path. The small accidents and things going wrong? That's you being so out of flow that life is literally trying to redirect you. And guaranteed it’s one hundred percent effecting your overall health and your energy levels.

But before your body even starts signaling, you get the feeling first. That unease. That sense that something's not quite right. The subtle changes. The connection that used to feel strong now feels off. These feelings are your intuition working perfectly. The question is: are you listening?

The Pattern of Dismissing Ourselves

Here's what usually happens... You see one thing about someone, but you feel something completely different underneath. You start dismissing the red flags. You tell yourself, "They probably didn't mean it that way," or "I'm probably just overthinking." This isn’t you overthinking. This is you abandoning your intuition. And when we do this repeatedly, we end up on much longer, more painful journeys than we needed to take.

We've learned to feel safe only when we're in control. So when something happens that we can't control, we get anxious, overwhelmed, and sometimes we end up on the floor in fetal position, not able to cope. We fall apart. But what if safety didn't come from controlling everything around us? Instead what if it came from trusting ourselves so deeply that we knew, no matter what happened, that we could navigate our way through it?

Coming Back to Your Internal Compass using Body's Early Warning Signals

Learning to read what’s going on with you is a life changer. It means tuning into how you really feel, in every situation. It's asking yourself, "Why do I keep getting sick?" or "What's this heaviness on my chest trying to tell me?" Not to overanalyse, but with genuine curiosity about what's happening inside you. When you start honoring these feelings instead of dismissing them, everything shifts.

This isn't about being perfect at reading every signal. It's about strongly wanting to support yourself and be part of your own life, instead of having life happen to you. It's about validating your own feelings as you go about your daily activities, instead of waiting for someone else to tell you they're real. Because your intuition was right all along. You did know. You felt it. And now it's time to keep trusting that knowing.

Your Power Is in Your Awareness

When you learn to recognise the previews - the feelings, the body signals, the patterns - you can support yourself before you hit rock bottom. You get to make small adjustments early on, instead of waiting for a massive life bomb to force you to change. This is how we do life differently. This is how we move from being dependent on everything going the way we need it to, to being empowered players in our own journey.

The shift starts with one simple practice. Tune into how you feel. Every experience that creates an emotional reaction. Those subtle signals. Your body’s early warning signals. Start noticing them. Start asking, "What does this mean for me?" or "Why am I feeling this way?" Is it exhaustion? A headache? Tightness in your chest? A sore throat that keeps coming back? These aren't random. They're your body's language signals, and it's time to start listening.

Remember it’s not about perfection. But you do need to make the choice to be on your own team. Take time, start with maybe once a week, to really check in with yourself:

  • How am I?
  • What's been going on for me?
  • What patterns are showing up?
  • How have I been feeling?
  • Has anything been niggling at me?

This simple act of paying attention will be the beginning of everything changing.

Because when you start trusting yourself, you stop needing life to go perfectly to feel safe. You stop being tossed around by every wave that comes. Instead, you're in the boat, navigating your way through with grace, self-awareness, and self-love. You're no longer waiting for someone else to validate your feelings or fix your life. You know you've got you.

Be done with “Why does this keep happening to me?”

Give this a try if you're ready to stop waiting for life to go well before you feel happy and safe. This is for you if you're tired of asking, "Why does this keep happening to me?" and you're ready to find the answers within yourself. If you feel like, or know there's more. More insight, more power, more peace, and you're ready to come home to yourself.

Because when you shift in this awareness of your body’s early warning signals, you're not just surviving life. You're living it fully, authentically, and powerfully. And that's the most beautiful shift of all.
